Breakfast in the Classroom

This year, we are renewing our commitment to making sure that all of our students are fully prepared for academic success. Have you ever wondered about the impact a healthy breakfast could have on your child’s performance in school?

The Food Research and Action Center’s 2007-2008 School Breakfast Scorecard confirms how important breakfast is for children:

Improved memory, verbal fluency, and problem-solving capability
Higher standardized test scores
Exhibit better concentration

Imagine what the classroom experience could be for your child when they have a healthy breakfast. That’s why the Child Nutrition Department is pleased to offer a new breakfast service for students! The School Breakfast Program is now free to all students every weekday morning and is offered in the classroom at various locations in the District.  No advance registration is necessary; your child can attend every day or only occasionally.

School Breakfast is an ideal solution on mornings when kids are running late or parents have early commitments.  Whatever the reason, if breakfast at home is not convenient, please take advantage of breakfast here at school. We would like for your child to participate in our Breakfast in the Classroom program, so your child can get the fuel he/she needs to succeed.

Schools currently participating in Breakfast in the Classroom:
Catoma Elementary
Chisholm Elementary
ED Nixon Elementary
Garrett Elementary
Johnson Elementary
Martin Luther King Elementary
McKee Middle

Thank you for helping us to make sure that all of our students start the school day alert, well fed and ready to learn.
