Title III - English as a Second Language

The purpose of this title is to help ensure that children who are limited English proficient, including immigrant children and youth, attain English proficiency, develop high levels of academic attainment in English, and meet the same challenging state academic content and student academic achievement standards as all children are expected to meet.

The mission of English as a Second Language (ESL) Program in the Montgomery Public School System is to provide English instruction and support for English Language Learners. Certified and highly qualified teachers will facilitate a student's acquisition of conversational and academic English through individualized and/or group instruction. The Federal Programs Advisory Council includes an ESL Advisory Committee. Parents serving on this Committee provide vital input concerning their child's education. Joining resources with parents, community members, and community organizations is imperative to student success.

Our Vision: One focus ... preparing students for life.

Due to a large number of language groups represented in the Montgomery Public School System, an English as a Second Language approach has been selected for serving English language learners. Students are taught in English, and when possible, native language support is provided for clarification.

Our goal is to assist students in acquiring the English proficiency and cultural awareness needed to become full and productive members of American Society.
