Parents may begin pre-registering their child/children on January 15th , 2025.  Note:  any information entered in the registration site prior to January 15th will be deleted when pre-registration officially begins.

At Montgomery Public Schools, high-quality Pre-K experiences lay the foundation for lifelong learning and personal growth. By fostering a nurturing and engaging environment, we help young learners develop critical abilities to support their success.

 Students who attend First Class Pre-K

  • are ready for kindergarten

  • outperform their peers in reading and math

  • have higher attendance rates

  • are less likely to require special education placement

  • are less likely to repeat grades

Pre-K Program Hours of Operation: 7:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.  ALL students must be picked up by 2:45 p.m.

TRANSPORTATION FOR PRE-K IS NOT PROVIDED BY THE MPS SCHOOL SYSTEM.

Not all MPS Schools have a Pre-K classroom. Pre-K students can enroll outside their designated school zone at the McKee Pre-K site only. To attend other sites, students must be zoned for that particular site within the school district.

Acceptance letters will be sent to the applicant's parent email address on March 14, 2025. Parents are required to respond to the email to confirm acceptance of the Pre-K seat by March 28, 2025.

*Students not selected during the Random Selection Process will be placed on a waitlist for their zoned school.

After accepting your child's Pre-K acceptance, parents will attend the MANDATORY Pre-Orientation on April 18th at your child's acceptance school.  

You will need to bring the following documents to the mandatory Pre-Orientation meeting. Each school will inform you of the available meeting times:

  • Child's Certified Birth Certificate

  • Child's Current Immunization Record

  • Parent or Guardian State-Issued ID

  • 1 Proof of Residence

1.  The Pre-K curriculum implements comprehensive early learning standards.

2.  Pre-K teachers have bachelor's degrees in Early Childhood Education with specialized early childhood professional development.

3.  Assistant Pre-K teachers have a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or equivalent.

4. Pre-K maximum class size is 18 with a staff to child ratio is 1:9

5.  Children are provided breakfast and lunch.

6. All enrolled students will receive dental, vision, and health screening. Other support services are also available.

7. Pre-K students can also be referred for Special Education Services.

Montgomery Public Schools’ First Class Pre-K Program is committed to providing a safe and caring, developmentally appropriate environment for preschool children. Our goal is to provide high-quality educational experiences which promote the maximum development of each child’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive abilities.

To foster a partnership with families and the community that enhances the abilities and skills of the whole child in becoming a lifelong learner.

High-quality Pre-K experiences provide children with the foundation for ongoing learning, and support children and families to become responsible citizens as they develop lifelong skills.

Goals 

Goals of high-quality Pre-K experiences include: enhancing skills in personal and social development, language and literacy, mathematical thinking, scientific thinking, social-emotional development, technology skills, creative arts, and physical development; and developing a professional learning community that includes parents, teachers, principals, MPS departments, and community organizations.  Through strong partnerships with Federal Programs, the Offices of School Readiness, Head Start, and the Family Guidance Center, Montgomery Public Schools offers a dynamic, high-quality Pre-K experience that increases children's school readiness.
