Montgomery Public Schools is thrilled to announce the exceptional achievement of LAMP High School student Rosemary A., who has earned the 1st place prize in the 2024 American Battle Monuments Foundation (ABMF) Past is Prologue Essay Contest!

The ABMF contest challenges students to delve into significant historical events, fostering a deeper understanding of American military history and sacrifice. The contest offered students two essay topics: the deception campaign surrounding the D-Day invasion, known as Operation Bodyguard, and the crucial role of air dominance achieved by iconic aircraft like the B-17, P-51 Mustang, and C-47 Skytrain in ensuring the success of the D-Day landing.

Rosemary's winning essay, which delved into the vital role of the Tuskegee Airmen in World War II, stood out among hundreds of submissions, ultimately securing the top prize after three rigorous reviews by experienced volunteer judges.

Rosemary's connection to the topic stems from her Montgomery roots: "In Montgomery, we live close to Tuskegee, and the Tuskegee airmen were one of the most important crews in World War II," she explains. "I've always looked up to them, and that's why this topic really interested me."

Montgomery Public Schools is incredibly proud to witness Rosemary's commitment to honoring the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen. We are grateful for her dedication and celebrate her remarkable success, knowing that she will continue to inspire us with her academic pursuits.
