Montgomery Public Schools (MPS) is thrilled to announce a successful inaugural flag football season for its middle school athletes, with a special shoutout to the South Lawn Middle School girl's flag football team for their exceptional performance!
The 2023 season saw a surge of enthusiasm for girls flag football across MPS as our athletes demonstrated incredible athleticism, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
"We are incredibly proud of all our middle school athletes, especially the South Lawn Middle School girls," said Gregory Ruffin, MPS Athletic Director. "Their dedication and sportsmanship are a testament to the values of our schools. This inaugural season has been a success, and we look forward to seeing the continued growth of flag football within MPS.”
The South Lawn Middle School girls' flag football team, led by coach Jamia Whiting, has set a high bar for future seasons. "This win was huge for South Lawn Middle School and the South Lawn community. This gives our students on the West Side of Montgomery something to be proud of and a reason to celebrate and be celebrated. We strive to make every experience for our players memorable and instill in them a sense of pride for the colors they wear. I am most proud that they could remain calm and battle back after being down and never gave up. They relied on each other's energy to regain momentum and were able to pull through.”
"To add, I am proud of them and their ability to compete in multiple sports simultaneously and come out victorious. Having only 13 players compete in two separate sports simultaneously showed their grit and tenacity. We appreciate their unwavering hard work and dedication to being a South Lawn Rocket on and off the field! I hope we build on this success and transfer it into the remaining sports left for this athletic season. Their success has showcased our community's talent and encouraged other young women to embrace the sport and pursue their athletic goals."
