Montgomery, AL – Montgomery Regional Airport (MGM) is excited to announce the winner of the First Annual Community of Christmas Trees decorating contest! This new holiday tradition brought festive cheer to the terminal while showcasing the creativity and talent of local schools and nonprofit organizations.

After receiving an overwhelming response from the community, with hundreds of votes cast, the 2024 winner is BEAR Exploration Center, whose tree captured the hearts of voters with its unique design and holiday spirit.

This year marked the launch of MGM’s Community of Christmas Trees, an initiative aimed at strengthening community connections and spreading holiday joy throughout the airport terminal. By inviting schools and nonprofit organizations to participate, MGM created a platform for local groups to showcase their creativity and engage with the broader community.

“This event was designed to bring people together and celebrate the vibrant creativity of our local organizations,” said Brittney Jones-Dabney, MGM Airport Communications and Marketing Manager. “We’re thrilled by the enthusiasm and participation we’ve seen and look forward to growing this tradition in the years to come.”

  • First Place: The tree with the most overall votes was created by BEAR Exploration Center, a testament to their widespread support and creativity.

  • Second Place: Alabama State University TRIO Programs.

  • Third Place: The Oaks Classical Cottage School.

  • Special Recognitions: BEAR Exploration Center swept the special recognition competition, winning all three awards—Most Creative Tree, Best Holiday Spirit, and Community Favorite. The winning tree was a true masterpiece, designed by students in second through fifth grades who were tasked with creating ornaments based on a STEAM theme. Each ornament creatively represented one of the areas of science, technology, engineering, art, or math, showcasing the students’ innovative thinking and artistic talent. BEAR’s participation highlighted the school’s dedication to fostering creativity and integrating educational themes into festive activities.

As MGM celebrates the success of its inaugural event, the airport is already looking forward to next year’s Community of Christmas Trees. The event will continue to invite schools and nonprofit organizations to participate in this festive competition, bringing even more holiday magic to the terminal.

Organizations interested in joining next year’s competition are encouraged to stay connected with MGM through its website and social media channels for updates on how to participate.
