Jazz is more than music; it’s a way of life. In celebration of National Music In Our Schools Month, our performing arts students at Booker T. Washington Magnet High School and Carver High School had the incredible opportunity to live that truth as they participated in the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz National Peer-to-Peer Jazz Education Program. From captivating performances by renowned jazz musicians Don Braden and Lisa Henry to interactive workshops with talented young artists, our students were inspired to connect, create, and grow. These experiences not only enriched their musical skills but also encouraged them to explore the power of jazz as a form of self-expression and cultural connection. As we celebrate the value of music education this month, we are proud to highlight how jazz continues to inspire and shape the next generation of musicians.
