Johnnie R. Carr Middle School's Caitlin & Floyd Middle Magnet School’s Micah Shine in "The Watsons Go to Birmingham" at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival!

This March, we’ve been proud to highlight the exceptional programs that make our district stand out, and one shining example is the celebration of Theatre in Our Schools Month. This month-long celebration emphasizes the vital role theatre education plays in developing communication, collaboration, and confidence in students.

As part of our partnership with the Alabama Shakespeare Festival (ASF), students were given the incredible opportunity to perform and tell stories on stage. Among those shining bright were Caitlin from Johnnie R. Carr Middle School and Micah from Floyd Middle Magnet School for Mathematics, Science, and Technology, who delivered a truly outstanding performance in The Watsons Go to Birmingham. Their talents were on full display, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who witnessed it.

Percionna Hale, teacher at Johnnie Carr Middle School team, shares, "I was moved to tears not only to hear the stories but to see our students performing and playing in their roles. It was a full experience!"

Caitlin and Micah’s performance at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival highlights the exceptional talent fostered through MPS’s fine arts programs. These programs provide students with the opportunity to explore their creativity, develop critical skills, and gain real-world experience in the arts. We’re proud to support and celebrate the continued growth of the arts in our schools.
