This April, in recognition of Autism Awareness Month, JAG High School came together in a big way. Our HOSA department, in partnership with the Department of Special Education, hosted an Autism Awareness Walk that brought students, staff, and families together for a powerful afternoon of learning, support, and community.
The walk gave everyone a chance to reflect on the many ways autism touches lives—and how we can all be part of creating a more inclusive and understanding school environment. Student-created posters and artwork lined the route, sharing facts about autism, personal insights, and messages of encouragement.
Our staff and faculty at JAG High School shared words of reflection throughout the event:
“Autism is not a one-size-fits-all experience. Every student brings their own strengths, challenges, and perspective.”
— Rashannda Herron, Health Science Teacher
“This walk was about more than awareness—it was about action, connection, and creating a school culture that uplifts every learner.”
—Jasmine Bruce, Language Unit Teacher
We’re incredibly proud of the students who helped organize the walk and those who participated with heart and purpose. Events like these remind us that awareness is just the first step—what comes next is listening, learning, and showing up for one another.
Thank you to everyone who made this day special!
