On March 5, 2024, residents of Montgomery County will have an opportunity to vote for the continuation of the 3.5 county tax millage that generates an estimated 11 million dollars for MPS. This is NOT A NEW TAX.
This tax has existed for nearly 40 years and was last renewed 20 years ago. Our neighbors, Pike Road Schools (PRS), receive an annual amount of 1.2 million dollars. For both school systems, these funds support resources such as teacher units, extracurricular activities, athletics, maintenance of facilities, professional development, security, and transportation needs.
It's important to note this tax is separate from the ad valorem tax passed in 2020. By law, MPS was not able to collect on that tax until October 2023; due to the delay of the tax collection, MPS took the initiative to implement strategies to ensure the necessary resources needed for 21st-century education were in place and has plans to continue building strategies to support quality education.
