MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Montgomery County Board of Education (MCBOE) is pleased to announce the finalists for the Montgomery Public Schools (MPS) superintendent position.

“We are excited to introduce a diverse and highly qualified group of candidates, each bringing a wealth of experience and leadership to this important role,” said MCBOE President Arica Watkins-Smith. “Our search has been rigorous, and we are confident that these finalists have the vision and expertise necessary to guide our district forward.”

The finalists for the MPS superintendent position, listed in alphabetical order, are:

• Dr. Zickeyous Byrd – Former Superintendent, Selma City Public Schools

• Dr. Constance Evelyn – Former Superintendent, Valley Stream 13 School District, NY

• Dr. Barbara Lashley – Deputy Superintendent, Rome City Schools, GA

• Mr. Scott Schneider – Chief of Schools, Duval County Public Schools, FL

• Dr. Angela Whitelaw – Deputy Superintendent, Memphis-Shelby County Public Schools, TN

• Dr. Harold Wright – Deputy Superintendent, Crawley Independent School District Texas

The MCBOE will begin initial interviews with each candidate during the week of March 3, 2025. Additional details regarding the interview process and next steps will be shared in the coming days.
