Montgomery Public Schools students took center stage at the recent Mayoral Youth Town Hall last month, at Park Crossing High School in partnership with the City of Montgomery. The event highlighted the importance of amplifying young voices and giving them a platform to influence the future of our city. Hosted by Montgomery Mayor Steven L. Reed, the town hall was moderated by two outstanding MPS student leaders: Madison Morgan, a senior at Park Crossing High School, and Jeremiah Treece, a senior at Booker T. Washington High School.

One of the key issues raised during the event was the need for improved financial education in high school. Students advocated for more opportunities to learn about financial literacy, highlighting its importance for their futures. The conversation also delved into the impact of scholarships and financial aid, with students stressing the need for greater access to these resources to ensure higher education is within reach for all.

Recreation and community engagement were also top priorities. Students expressed a strong desire for more recreational activities in Montgomery, emphasizing the importance of creating a vibrant, engaging environment for youth. They spoke about the need for spaces and opportunities that would allow their peers to connect, stay active, and thrive outside of school.

MPS Interim Superintendent Jamie Wilson praised the event, noting, "Our students demonstrated a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing Montgomery. Their active participation in shaping the city’s future reflects the strong leadership and engagement of our youth."

The Mayoral Youth Town Hall was more than just a conversation—it was a reminder of the critical importance of investing in our youth. By giving them a voice, encouraging meaningful dialogue, and addressing their concerns, we are equipping them to be the leaders of tomorrow. Their energy, passion, and commitment to Montgomery’s future are proof that when we invest in our young people, we invest in a brighter tomorrow for all.

A special thank you to Park Crossing High School for serving as the host site for this impactful event. Their commitment to supporting student leadership and community engagement played a key role in making this event a success.

Together, we’re building a stronger, more vibrant Montgomery—led by the voices of our youth.
