Jazz—America’s music—filled the halls of Booker T. Washington High yesterday as our students participated in the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz’s National Peer-to-Peer Jazz Education Program! 🎷 Featuring internationally acclaimed saxophonist Don Braden and vocalist Lisa Henry, along with some of the best young musicians from across the country, this event was an unforgettable day of music, learning, and inspiration. As one of only eight districts nationwide selected, our students collaborated in workshops with gifted high school musicians. Huge thanks to the Herbie Hancock Institute for this amazing opportunity! #TheresMoreWithMPS #MPSRising

Thanks to the Alabama Power Classroom grants, two of our amazing teachers from Bear Exploration Academy, Ms. Keisha Graves (3rd grade) and Mrs. Maria Ball (1st grade), are receiving up to $1,000 each for classroom materials! Ms. Graves will use her grant for The Great Outdoor Classroom project, which includes building a sensory garden and weather station in the school’s Certified Alabama Outdoor Classroom. This hands-on project will inspire curiosity and creativity while deepening students' understanding of science and nature. Mrs. Ball's Mindful Minds, Mindful Hands project will enhance learning experiences by providing resources to create a more engaging classroom environment, fostering academic growth for her first-grade students. Thank you, Ms. Graves and Mrs. Ball, for your dedication to inspiring and empowering your students! We can't wait to see the amazing impact these projects will have! 📚
